Live Scan
Live Scan is an automated background check process that requires digitized fingerprints. The process is totally ink free. The fingerprints are electronically transmitted to the statewide criminal database at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in a matter of seconds, instead of days normally required to send hard copy fingerprint cards through the mail. The DOJ LiveScan provides reports with detailed information on California convictions based on a fingerprint match. Anyone applying for certain types of employment or licensing may be required to be LiveScanned.
The background check is solely intended for determining an individual's employability, promotability, and or acceptability as a provider of public services
